I've been failing to post some kind of reasonably updated self-introduction for a while, but it occurs to me I just did the fandom friending thread and I could just copy-paste my answers from that for a decent start! (Next up, getting my LJ caught up with fanworks I've posted elsewhere recently.)

books: Even less idea how to answer this one, like choosing a favorite child, etc. etc. But thinking in terms of fiction series with fandoms, some of my foundational ones are Sherlock Holmes (ACD), Lord Peter Wimsey, and the Hitchhiker's Guide.

what do you post about in your journal?: A mix of fandom and non-fandom. Usually not very personal, because I'm pretty reserved and private about my life online, but you will see some nice pictures of my pets, occasional mildly interesting RL entries, and occasional politics.
what do you look for in a LJ friend?: Interesting conversations, common interests (which don't have to be shared fandoms, I follow people that I talk to about a lot of different stuff), good boundaries.
friendship deal breakers: The usual things, I guess? Misogyny, homophobia, abuse apologism and such. But I'll "unfriend" someone on here if I just, like, don't want to read their LJ anymore, and I'm fine with anyone doing the same in kind. (I mean I don't randomly remove people I've actually talked to a lot and become internet-friends with, but I don't feel like we're making a big pact with each other when we first click the friend button.) So if you can't be kind of chill about your contact status with someone online that you don't really know, then we're probably not a good match.

anything else: I appreciate the netiquette of introducing ourselves in the comments here first, but if you're sitting there thinking that you'd like to friend me but can't actually think of anything to say, you can also just go friend me, it's okay, you can just do it. I can never think of anything to say on these memes either.

I have to ask. Would you mind telling me why you broke up with The Americans? I've been on the verge of quitting the show for a couple of seasons.. Once I've committed fic, I have a hard time quitting a series.

I should preface this by saying that I binged the first three seasons on DVD, so the season I bailed on was also the first one I'd watched week-to-week, but... I was bored! I got hooked on a show that had been, like, all subtext, everything had a million layers of subtext, and now I was just watching this season where everyone says exactly what they mean and then relates the conversation they just had to somebody else, and Stan has three different conversations about his pure motives for protecting Oleg to make sure we get that there's nothing interesting about it, and the only source of dramatic tension in the season arc is if you haven't figured out immediately that there is no grain conspiracy and they're just murdering innocent scientists, and I was bored.

Incredible cast, though. I tried to stay on for the pleasure of watching them. But that's the long and short of it.

SLINGS AND ARROWWWWWS ALL THE FEELINGS

I really need to rewatch it, especially now that it's streaming legitimately. (Thank you Canada!) Now and then I think of the dusty old stories in that fandom that I never finished. Maybe it's time for a renaissance of that show, I mean, the third season does have a guy who's in Hannibal in it, the internet likes Hannibal, right?

I maybe should go find a meme like yours to post as an updated self-intro, partly because I enjoy filling them out, so...self-indulgent. I've had two major fannish experiences in my life: Stalky & Co. by Rudyard Kipling and Queer as Folk: not as different as you might think. I also like C.J. Cherryh's works very much, although I'm finding her Foreigner series a bit of a trudge. Mostly, however, I post about the ups and downs of my life...many more ups than downs...and even the downs can be fairly interesting, at least to me.

Friending you back but if you find there's too little overlap, feel free to move on. I'm not everybody's cuppa tea. njs
